Second-string gratitude!

A completely hectic week calls for a second-string gratitude list, I think.

- a steal of a wedding dress that needs no alterations in the bodice (just some minor work to make it appropriate for my height)
- a rain barrel that, by our calculations, is paying for itself in one summer
- having a supervisor at work who acknowledges my efforts and abilities
- string bean plants that refuse to stop churning out string beans
- Stevie Wonder

... and a sixth!

Grateful for blooming irises (and for figuring out how to post photos from my phone that don't appear in miniature).

Cop-out in list form

When all else fails and one has nothing interesting to say, one can never go wrong with a second-string gratitude list.

1. Cinnamon-hazelnut coffee from a french press.

2. Watching Meet the Press every Sunday morning with a mug of said coffee and an intelligent, interested, and interesting SuperFiance. (Wait, that's approaching first-string gratitude. Ok, let's just say Meet the Press.)

3. Getting the lawn mowed before 8:00am, when the street is still quiet and the sun is still low.

4. Having gutters set up and ready for the rain barrel we're getting next week.

5. Finding a place to plant some asparagus, once and for all.

It was a good weekend, y'all.

Second-string Gratitude

Here's what I'm thankful for today (excluding, as always, the big and obvious items):

- cute argyle socks that go perfectly with my sensible Mary Janes
- first listen of a CD I received for my birthday (Attention all fans of good music: look up Sean Costello. I'd recommend starting with his cover of Al Green's "I'm a Ram." Talent, yo.)
- azalea bushes starting to bloom in our yard
- plans set up this weekend to spend time with one of my oldest and dearest friends
- pink grapefruit. yummy.

Whatcha got on your list today?

Second-string Gratitude

I had dinner with a lovely bunch of ladies yesterday, and the subject of gratitude journals came up. I think this is such a great idea: keeping a list of the elements of good fortune in your life to give yourself a little perspective. You all can probably guess the major things that are going well for me right now, so I'll spare you the full list, but here are some of the second-string reasons why I'm a lucky gal.

1. I know what's wrong with my knee and why it's been hurting. Bonus: it's (relatively) easily fixable.
2. Directly related to item 1: I once again have health insurance coverage!
3. I found what I think might be the perfect pair of shoes for a big occasion, after fearing said concept might not exist.
4. Oh, oh, just remembered that I have an awesome CD to listen to today. (Them Crooked Vultures. Check 'em out.)
5. Lip gloss with mint in it, to save me from chapped lips *and* perk me up with its minty freshness. Definitely thankful for that.

Feel free to chime in via comments with what your list would include. Second-string gratitude items are so much fun to talk about!
