My Cup Runneth Over

It's a good day today for so many reasons.

It's Friday!  Thank you, sweet baby Jesus.

The Awesome Husband and I have been married for six months today.  We went out for dinner yesterday (not for that reason, just as a spur of the moment idea, which might be even better) and had a great conversation about our wedding, going on dates still, and how lucky we are in general.

My lunch today is leftovers from yesterday's dinner.  Pizza with roasted chicken, two types of mushrooms, potatoes, leeks, and fontina cheese.  I'm already salivating, and it's only 9:30.

It's National Grammar Day!

There's a pair of boots that I bought online for a song on their way to me as we speak.

I can't be the only one in an (uncharacteristically, of late) good mood.  What's going well for you today?

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!

I've been forced to acquire a new level of tolerance for typographical errors by virtue of the surroundings at my workplace.  I spend much of my day reading emails full of misspellings, instant messages with an alarming consonant-to-vowel ratio, and printed materials serving as cautionary tales on why spellcheck alone can't save you from yourself.  Careless errors -- particularly in venues where carelessness should not be present -- still irk me, and I've likely bored my coworkers on more than one occasion by sharing an exceptionally humorous (to me) typo, but for the most part I've realized that I kind of have to let it go.

What I saw this evening after I left work, though, was more than my little grammarian brain could handle.  I stopped at a gas station, pulled up to one of the pumps, and approached the automated screen.

It asked if I wanted to use a "fule rewards card."

Seriously.

Warms my bleeding heart...

Did anyone else happen to catch the health care reform conversation on Meet the Press this morning? To summarize:

1. Rudy Giuliani stoops to inane fearmongering in the use of the phrase "pulling the plug on Grandma."

2. Harold Ford Jr. picks up his pen and crafts a reasoned, logical, scathing response while Tom Brokaw speaks.

3. Ford maintains his composure and gets several valid points across while Giuliani tries to interrupt with objections of varying degrees of substance. Ford points out the holes in Giuliani's argument and generally appears the more intelligent and rational of the two.

4. Senor Wonderful and I raise our coffee mugs in delight and cheer out loud from the comfort of our couch. Yes, we really did.

I would just like to state for the record...

... that I type two spaces before the beginning of a new sentence. Sentence. Period. Space. Space. New sentence. I'm old school like that. I also think it's adds visual clarity when reading; obviously, it isn't something one ordinarily thinks much about, but it makes a certain amount of sense for there to be a greater amount of blank page (or screen) between sentences than between, say, an abbreviation and the rest of the same sentence.

Unfortunately, blogspot apparently has some sort of default formatting scheme wherein we all must conform to the new "modern"* practice of using one space between sentences. Those fascists. Please know in your heart of hearts, however, that I'm typing those second spaces, futilely but in earnest.

Happy Sentence Day!

Today is one of the coolest days all year. Why? Because today, and today only, the date is its own complete sentence. Think about it. What's today's date? Say it out loud... that's right, "March fo(u)rth!"

Yes, I'm a big nerd. But if you're reading this, you probably knew that already. :)
